Concert Band Camp & Orchestra Camp

Eligibility
The Concert Band Camp is open to all woodwind, brass, and percussion students who are currently completing grades 8-12. The Orchestra Camp is open to all string students who are currently completing grades 8-12. Graduating seniors are welcome for both camps! Parent/guardian permission is required.

 

!!NEW!! Advanced Chamber Winds Program
The Advanced Chamber Winds Program provides a unique opportunity for twenty-four musicians who seek an exceptional summer experience. Two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two alto saxophones, one tenor saxophone, one baritone saxophone, four trumpets, two trombones, two tubas, and four horns are selected by audition to work on a collegiate level with University of Oregon faculty members – TUITION-FREE.

Courses and Activities 
Participation in a large ensemble
Students will choose from the possible elective courses (depending on the year):
– Music Theory
– Conducting
– Arranging
– Improvisation
– World Drumming
– Mariachi
– Auditioning without anxiety
Recreational activities on and around the UO campus including group trips to the ice cream shop, playing board games, and relaxing outdoors on the beautiful UO campus.

Placement Auditions
On the day you arrive at camp, you will play an audition consisting of a short etude or solo. If you are interested in playing a solo, come prepared to play a second placement audition.

Lodging and Meals
Students will be housed in UO Residence Halls and will be served all meals in the Residence Hall Cafeterias. UO music majors and Oregon Marching Band members are selected to serve as dorm counselors and are required to live in the dorms the entire week of camp in order to adequately supervise students and care for their safety while in the dorms. Group recreation activities are also planned and supervised by the counselors.

Tentative Schedule
You will receive a full itinerary in your information packet, sent by email approximately one month prior to camp.
Monday, July 10th
11:15-1:00 pm Registration and check-in
1:00 Auditions
3:00 General Meeting
4:30 Dinner 
6-9 Rehearsal

Tuesday- Friday, July 11th-14th
Although the schedule will vary depending on the day of the week, a typical day at Concert Band Camp has various rehearsals, electives and classes, with performances and activities scheduled in the evenings.

Saturday, July 15th
8:00 Dress Rehearsals
11:30 Family Picnic BBQ (see expenses page for ticket information)
1:15 Final Concert (parents are highly encouraged to attend)
3:00 Checkout of dorms

Registration Deadline
All application materials and fees must be received by June 19, 2017. Late applications will be accepted on a space-available basis only and must pay in full.

What Next?
Once you have registered we will send you a confirmation letter of acceptance and an account balance sheet. Once you have been accepted to attend the 2017 camp, we will send you a packet of information about one month before camp begins.
