Under this code, the University of Oregon may initiate disciplinary action and sanctions imposed against any student found guilty of committing, attempting to commit, or intentionally assisting in the commission of any of the following prohibited forms of conduct:
- Damage, destruction, theft, or unauthorized use of personal property located on the university campus or property owned or controlled by the University.

Student Expectations
All summer music program participants are expected to abide by the following expectations:
- Respect privacy, diversity, and opinions that differ from your own.
- No swearing and other foul language.
- No bullying (physical, verbal, and aggressive behavior, etc.)
- No racial or gender discrimination.
- Limit cellphone and electronic devices to free time. Store devices during lessons and rehearsals.
- Keep our campus clean.
- Be on time and give your full attention to the instructor(s) and volunteers.
- Stay with your group and within established geographical boundaries.
- Stay on your assigned door floor and sleep in your assigned room.
- Do not leave the residence hall after 10pm and be in your room by 10:30pm.
Electronic Devices
Electronic Devices at SFYCA: Participants are permitted to bring a cellphone or tablet; however, electronics must be left in the dorm rooms. There will be a period in the evening when students can have their cellphones to connect with family. Cellphones that are taken out of the residence hall will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. Staff carry phones with them during the day in case of emergency. Cellphone use can be a distraction, but it can also lead to unwarranted cyber-bullying. We respect that this may be a difficult challenge for employees, student participants, and parents; however, we believe in the benefits of a strictly limited cellphone policy during your time at camp. We want participants to focus on building relationships with new peers, rather than isolating themselves on electronic devices. If students want to bring a computer, laptop, tablet, or other such devices, they are free to do so, but it must be kept in their dorm room.
Electronic Devices at Jazz and String: Participants are permitted to bring a cellphone or tablet and use them, as needed, throughout our program. We appreciate a cellphone-free environment during lessons, rehearsals, and performances, but we recognize that phones are an integral part of modern life and are one of the most common ways we stay connected. As a reminder, cellphone use can be a distraction, but it can also lead to unwarranted cyber-bullying. We respect that it may be a difficult challenge for participants to limit their phone use, but we hope participants will focus on building relationships with new peers, rather than isolating themselves on electronic devices.
Behavior Management
UO Summer Music Camps are committed to ensuring each student has a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience. The misbehavior of one student, or a group of students, should not be allowed to negatively impact the experience of others. Program staff make every effort to help students understand clear definitions and expectations of acceptable and unacceptable behavior. We respond to misbehavior and conflicts consistently and appropriately with a zero tolerance for violence, bullying, and unsafe behaviors. UO Summer Music Camps administration reserves the right to conduct a room check in the event of wellness, security and/or safety concerns. Depending on the misconduct, parents/guardians will be required to pick up your student immediately.
Disciplinary action in response to infractions is at the discretion of the program staff, who reserve the right to take all actions considered to be in the best interest of the student and the program. Should any student’s behavior violate the policies, formal disciplinary action may occur as follows, with the program staff maintaining complete discretionary power to eliminate steps 1 and 2 if it is determined that the infraction warrants that action.
- In the event of an initial infraction, the following actions may be taken by a UO Summer Music Camps staff member or counselor: early curfew, parental notification, referral to UO Summer Music Camps administrator for further action or, in extreme cases, sheriff notification and eviction from the residence hall and the Camp program.
- In the event of continued infractions, the student’s actions will be documented in writing and UO Summer Music Camps administrators informed of the infraction. After ascertaining the facts of the situation, the coordinator will determine whether parental notification, probation and/or expulsion are warranted. If determined is warranted, the Dean of the School of Music and Dance will then be consulted for a final decision.
- In the event of expulsion, the student’s parents or guardian will be contacted to arrange the student’s safe return home. If UO Summer Music Camps arranges transportation, the parent or guardian is expected to reimburse UO Summer Music Camps in full for all travel costs. Expulsion is at the absolute discretion of the UO Summer Music Camps staff. No refund of fees or award of college credit will be made to a participant who has been expelled.
Disciplinary action may be initiated by the University and UO Summer Camps, and sanctions may be imposed against any student found guilty of committing, attempting to commit, or intentionally assisting in the commission of any of the following prohibited forms of conduct:
