Jazz Improvisation Camp Director

Paul Krueger is an Assistant Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon where where he directs the Oregon Jazz Ensemble and teaches courses in jazz pedagogy and jazz arranging as well as lessons in jazz trumpet, improvisation, and composition/arranging.

In addition to his teaching duties, Krueger serves as the director of the UO Summer Jazz Improvisation Camp, co-director of the Oregon Jazz Festival, and director of the UO Day of Improvisation, an annual one-day workshop for high school students. Before his appointment at the University of Oregon, Krueger served as a music instructor at Lane Community College. Under his direction, the Lane Jazz Ensemble was recognized as the community college winner in the large jazz ensemble category of the Downbeat Student Music Awards.

A versatile trumpeter and improviser, Krueger has also published numerous works as a composer/arranger. A three-time winner of a Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award, his music for large jazz ensemble has been performed internationally by artists such as Steve Wilson, Kendrick Scott, and Eric Alexander. His debut album, The Wayward Traveler, features eight of his original works for small jazz group performed by his quartet. He performs frequently with other notable jazz musicians in the Pacific Northwest and is a frequent clinician at regional jazz festivals. Click here for full bio.

Summer Music Camp Administration

Anna Frazer is the Administrative Coordinator of Athletic Bands. She oversees logistics for Oregon Athletic Bands and arranges lodging, transportation and scheduling. She supervises the band office student staff, maintains bookkeeping records, and coordinates the Summer Music Camps at the University of Oregon. Frazer also oversees the website, social media and historical archiving.

Before working for Athletic Bands, Frazer was a four-year member of the Oregon Marching Band. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the UO School of Music and Dance in Music Education.
