String Auditions
Eligibility
For advanced high school string players (9-12 grade)
*current 8th graders are welcome to apply
Application Checklist (Due by May 1, 2025)
*Applicants will be notified of the result by April 22nd, 2025.
- Online application form
- Video recordings of performance
- Personal statement video
- Color photo (or headshot)
- Recommendation letter from your primary teacher or another musician
- Nonrefundable application fee of $105 (Do not pay tuition until you have received your letter of acceptance)
Repertoire Requirements (Violin, Viola, Cello & Bass)
- A movement of solo Bach or an etude
- A work or movement of contrasting style that demonstrates instrumental facility
Note: piano accompaniment must be provided for works where it is required.
Video Recording of Performance Guidelines
- You may submit multiple videos
- Each piece must be performed in a single, unedited take
- Make sure that the auditioning student’s face is clearly visible, with their upper body near the camera
- Ensure that the background of the video is simple, uncluttered, and not too bright (e.g., don’t stand in front of a window)
- Place the microphone close to the auditioning student and away from the piano
Personal Statement Video
Your spoken personal statement video should be 3 minutes or less and should be submitted as a separate file from the audition video. In your statement, please elaborate on the following prompts:
- Speak about why you are passionate about music
- Share something interesting about yourself
- Discuss why you want to study at UO String Intensive
